Biography

Julia B. Haager鈥檚 research explores how members of the eugenics movement shaped sex education in US public schools during the first half of the twentieth century. A portion of her book project, 鈥淭eaching Responsible Reproduction,鈥 has appeared in the <i>Journal of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era </i>and the <i>History of Education Quarterly</i><i>. </i>Her research received the Claud A. Eggersten Dissertation Prize from the History of Education Society, SUNY Binghamton Distinguished Dissertation Award, and SUNY Chancellor鈥檚 Distinguished Dissertation Finalist Award. Among others, her work has been funded by the American Association of University Women (AAUW) and Humanities New York. Her oral and archival history project, GMHC Stories (co-led with Sean G. Massey), explores the HIV/AIDS service organization Gay Men鈥檚 Health Crisis during the 1980s and 1990s. It includes an array of newly collected materials and more than one hundred oral interviews that have been archived at the New York Public Library. Publications from this project have appeared in the <i>Oral History Review </i>and <i>American Journal of Public Health. </i>鈥嬧嬧嬧
