My lab focuses on genetics and molecular biology. Some of the projects that are ongoing in the lab include:
- studying virulence in the pathogenic yeast, Cryptococcus neoformans, an opportunistic unicellular yeast that usually infects immunocompromised individuals, using techniques such as RNA interference (RNAi) and CRISPR.
- analyzing proteins isolated from the venom of parasitoid wasps that modulate the immune system in fruitflies, using recombinant expression systems and enzyme assays.
- understanding the genome architecture of different Drosophila spp. by performing annotation and comparative genomics of genes involved in different biochemical/ developmental pathways.
