Campus Emergency Updates

Sunday, February 1, 2026 update:

University officials have continued to monitor the effects of the winter weather on our area this weekend.

Employees

Ðǿմ«Ã½ employees and operations will remain at a Condition Level 2—Suspended Operations through Monday, February 2, at 11:59 pm.  This includes employees at the Cullowhee main campus and the Biltmore instructional site.  The condition level for Tuesday will be reassessed on Monday.

Faculty members are asked, where possible, to move Monday classes to a remote/online modality.  Please communicate plans to your students.  Classes normally taught online are not affected by weather-related changes to the regular class schedule.

Only mandatory employees shall report to work on campus.  If possible, employees who are not designated as mandatory should work with their supervisors to arrange remote work.  If not working, employees should code leave or may make up the time within 90 days.  All Ðǿմ«Ã½ employees should be familiar with the Adverse Weather Policy, Policy #41. Questions about the policy may be directed to the Office of Human Resources at HumanResources@wcu.edu.

Students

Classes on Monday, February 2, where possible, will be moved to a remote/online modality.  The operational and class schedule for Tuesday will be reassessed on Monday.  Students are expected to be in touch with faculty and complete the assignments.  Online classes are not affected by weather-related changes to the regular class schedule.

Given the lingering effects of winter weather in our area, it is strongly recommended that travel be avoided as it enters and persists in our region.   If you need to travel, please follow these winter weather safety tips:

  • Drive slowly and keep a safe distance from the car in front of you.  Give yourself plenty of time to stop and avoid all distractions.
  • Shaded areas melt much more slowly than those exposed to direct sunlight.  Use extreme caution.
  • Areas that may look wet could be ice – use caution.

We will continue to assess weather conditions.  If there are any further changes to class or operating schedules, we will advise everyone and post the information on the Ðǿմ«Ã½ homepage at .
