More surgical masks donated to community, via Ðǿմ«Ã½-based group

Some 15,000 much-needed surgical masks are now available for health care providers across the 18 counties of Western North Carolina, thanks to big efforts by a small group centered at Ðǿմ«Ã½.

Scott Eldredge, assistant professor in the Department of Communication, is seeking volunteers to participate in a research study exploring how people obtain and assess information about the COVID-19 pandemic.

David Walton selected to lead Ðǿմ«Ã½â€™s new African American Studies minor program

David Walton, an assistant professor of history at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, has been named the director of Ðǿմ«Ã½â€™s African American Studies minor. Walton will begin his new role, which includes being an assistant professor in the Department of History, Aug. 1.

Fire ant problems increase in mountains, including higher elevations of the region

Move over murder hornets. Fire ants, those vicious insects with a painful sting and destructive ways, are becoming more pervasive in the mountains, according to research from the Highlands Biological Station of Ðǿմ«Ã½.

It will be May in December for members of Ðǿմ«Ã½â€™s spring graduating class of 2020 who were originally scheduled to participate in commencement ceremonies this month until the events were postponed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
