About International Programs and Services

Mission and Overarching Goals

The Ðǿմ«Ã½ Office of Global Engagement provides leadership and advocacy for students and scholars through international programs and activities on campus and its surrounding community, promotes study abroad opportunities, and coordinates international-related resources for the campus community. Ðǿմ«Ã½ Global is the main hub of international engagement at Ðǿմ«Ã½.

We work with students, faculty, and staff on campus, in Western North Carolina, and throughout the world to:

Global Learning

  • Provide international learning opportunities in order to develop globally-engaged, interculturally-sensitive students
  • Develop and coordinate Ðǿմ«Ã½â€™s short-term, summer, semester and yearlong study abroad programs

International Students and Scholars

  • Engage international students and scholars into the campus and local community
  • Provide immigration services and transitional support for international students and scholars
  • Oversee international enrollment management (recruitment, admissions, marketing)

Faculty and Staff International Development

  • Support international teaching and learning
  • Develop and provide international development programs for faculty and staff

International Partnerships

  • Develop and facilitate international engagement and partnerships
  • Strategically implement international partnerships

Community Engagement

  • Increase cross-cultural understanding through outreach programs on-campus and throughout the local community

International Program Advisory Board

Goal
In cooperation with the Office of Global Engagement (Ðǿմ«Ã½ Global) and other Ðǿմ«Ã½ units, explore and recommend initiatives that expand international experiences to all faculty, staff, and students; recruit faculty and students to participate in international research, study and internship; recruit talented international students and scholars to Ðǿմ«Ã½; evaluate Ðǿմ«Ã½ Global programs; and develop Ðǿմ«Ã½ into a higher-tier global education institution for teaching, research, services, and other international activities.
Objectives
1. Encourage more Ðǿմ«Ã½ faculty to develop high-quality faculty-led study abroad courses
2. Develop international internship opportunities for students
3. Recruit more Ðǿմ«Ã½ students to study and conduct internship abroad
4. Explore opportunities for faculty to teach and conduct research internationally
5. Recruit high-quality students and scholars from the global market to Ðǿմ«Ã½
6. Promote Ðǿմ«Ã½ internationally through other creative initiatives
